My first influence was from a recent film called 'Paranormal Activities', which was a sell out. They had a lot of midnight showings of the film, which I thought was a great idea to create that special scary feel to it. I also looked at people’s reactions to the film on Face book and most people were scared witless!
One of the main reasons for choosing this film was because it was all recorded on a hand held camera. This was very effective in the way it frightened the audience and showed what was happening.
The trailer for this film really caught my attention as it was very unusual. The Director showed some abstracts of the film, but also the audiences’ reaction as it was being shown i.e. there was a scary scene and you could see the audience being really scared by the expressions on their faces and grapping the person next to them, so this told me that the film being advertised must be a horror movie and extremely scary and what did happen next?!
This I'm sure would make a big impact for people wanting to see the film as they will see the genuine reactions of the audience and get a good idea of what the plot is about - they will definitely be left wanting to see more!
My second trailer is 'Cloverfield'. This was also filmed on a hand held camera, which I feel helps the audience experience of feeling they that are taking part in the film as it is happening. This film is about mysterious and gigantic creatures that attack New York. The main thing about the promotion of this film is that when the trailer came out, it didn’t give away the name of the film which created a lot of speculation and talk about it; I thought this was a great advertising trick.
In one of the first clips of the trailer you see the Statue of Liberty's head come crashing down on to the road. The first thought which came to my mind was 'what the hell is happening?’ This first clip really left me feeling that I wanted to find out more about the film and therefore, would go to watch it. So if I was feeling that way, it should make a lot of people also think the same. I think the trailer sets the scene very well, showing where it is taking place, who the main characters are and gave a good outline of the storyline.
